The 2024 Bangladesh Quota Reform Movement is a major student-led anti-government protest demanding changes to the quota-based system for government job recruitment, which allocates 56% of jobs to various groups, including a controversial 30% for descendants of freedom fighters. Sparked by a Supreme Court ruling reinstating this quota, the movement spread rapidly from university campuses nationwide due to violent government responses, killing over 900 students, and widespread public discontent with authoritarian rule and economic mismanagement. Additionally, the government is arbitrarily arresting protest coordinators and opposition leaders, further intensifying the unrest.
